If These Walls Could Sing…

February 19, 2010

No matter where you are in O`Donoghues on Merrion Row,chances are Seosamh Ó hÉanaí,Seamus Ennis or Ronnie Drew have sat/sang/got plastered there. That`s the magic of O`Donoghues.Even a little schoolboy like myself, whose a fair few years away from being able to buy a pint, falls under the spell.

A few days ago,I went in with the aul lad for tea and sambos in the lounge with Dominic Behan,Frank Harte and even Pete Seeger looking down at us.Countless frames line the walls and it`s here you`ll find the heroes of the ballad boom of the early sixties:Ewan MacColl,Peggy Seeger and Paddy O`Donoghue sit gabbing away in one photo;Bobby Clancy throws his arms around an aul lad outside Seosamh Ó hÉanaí`s house(I assume)in Connamara while the man himself poses for a picture;Dominic Behan grins with a big old feck off pipe in his mouth.I could go on and on.

Here`s a few pictures I took of some of the photographs I thought were interesting, but for every one here, there`s ten that were impossible to even get a half-decent pic of because of the lights or the awkward position. What really needs to be done,in my opinion,is a proper coffee table book with each photo properly scanned and given the treatment they deserve so as to ensure the enjoyment of future generations of this fantastic gallery.
